Mazda Shows Off Japanese Style in Milan, With KODO-Inspired Chair

We're the kind of people who like carmakers to stay focused on what they are supposed to do – make automobiles. However, in the modern world of design, which is an entire sub-culture in and of itself, it seems that it doesn't matter what you come up with, as it can easily be translated and made into something else entirely, while keeping its relation to the first inspirational object very clear. Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Nissan Jointly Recall 3.4 Million Cars Worldwide Over Airbag Issue

In this day and age, automakers share a number of common components, which is beneficial in terms of pushing down costs and development times, but can also be troublesome when something goes wrong, as is the case of a faulty air bag from Japanese manufacturer Takata Corp., which is used by Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Nissan.

Overall, the four Japanese carmakers and their subsidiaries are recalling 3.4 million vehicles worldwide for the same issue that stems from improperly manufactured propellant wafers that could cause the airbag inflator to rupture and the front passenger airbag to deploy abnormally in the event of a crash.

My Rotary Diaries: An Owner’s Guide to the Mazda RX-8 Galaxy

"The RX-8 doesn’t just like a drink; it is the founding member of the AA institution for sports car engines"

Are you tired of my RX-8 reports yet? If you secretly nodded your head in agreement, then I have good news for you, because this will be the final one, in which I’ll try to recount the ups and downs of running Mazda’s last rotary sports car – until, hopefully, the next one comes up…

First of all, let me introduce you to the world’s first contemporary four-door coupe. The Mercedes-Benz CLS that supposedly invented the niche? It was launched a year later than the RX-8, which is a coupe and has four doors. True, the Merc and its clones are perched much higher in terms of pricing and none adopted the rear suicide doors that did without the B-pillar, but you get the point.

Electrical Fire Risk Sparks 15,000-Strong Mazda6 Recall Worldwide

The all-new Mazda6 has been on the market for a few months now, and so far, it has received praise for its style, driving dynamics and efficiency. However, since it is an all-new car, problems were bound to pop up, and the 6 is not without its fair share. According to a press release from Mazda Australia, the problem is of an electrical nature, and it can lead to a fire, in the worst-case scenario. Read more »

Dealers Say All-New 2014 Mazda3 Coming to the U.S. This Fall

Earlier this week, we shared a speculative rendering we made of the third-generation Mazda3 compact hatchback based on sightings of camouflaged prototypes, what we know about the carmaker's new "kodo" (Japanese for "soul of motion") design language and our own intel.

Now we learn that we could see the actual car arrive in U.S. showrooms as early as this fall. Automotive News spoke to three separate Mazda dealers, who told the publication that they learned about the autumn launch plan of the redesigned Mazda3 from the Japanese carmaker itself. The news agency said it contacted a Mazda spokesman about the story, but he (or she) declined to comment.

Future Cars: 2015 Mazda3 Hatchback Goes Kodo

In 2004, the Mazda3's arrival on the compact car scene was a huge breath of fresh air; equipped with competent handling, performance and standout styling, it made a striking point of difference compared to its competitors and the mundane Protegé/323 that it replaced. Even in comparison to the European Ford Focus that shares its platform, the Mazda3 in my eyes set a design benchmark that still looks fresh today. Read more »
