Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Nissan Jointly Recall 3.4 Million Cars Worldwide Over Airbag Issue


In this day and age, automakers share a number of common components, which is beneficial in terms of pushing down costs and development times, but can also be troublesome when something goes wrong, as is the case of a faulty air bag from Japanese manufacturer Takata Corp., which is used by Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Nissan.

Overall, the four Japanese carmakers and their subsidiaries are recalling 3.4 million vehicles worldwide for the same issue that stems from improperly manufactured propellant wafers that could cause the airbag inflator to rupture and the front passenger airbag to deploy abnormally in the event of a crash.

Hyundai and Kia Conduct Massive US Recall for 1.9 Million Vehicles


Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia have announced a very large-scale recall, which affects a total of 1.9 million vehicles in the United States. Of the total figure, 1.06 million of the recalled vehicles are Hyundais, while Kia has called back some 623,000 cars in total, all of which share the same electronic problems. Read more »

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and i-MiEV's Li-Ion Battery Fires Linked to Grounded Boeing 787s


Mitsubishi said on Wednesday that a an Outlander plug-in hybrid's batteries melted at a dealership before it was delivered to a customer, while a i-MiEV's batteries caught fire at its Mizushima Plant in Okayama prefecture in Japan during testing. In both cases, the battery pack is made by GS Yuasa Corporation, in Japan.

Now, what makes this story interesting is that, according to reports, GS Yuasa Corp. is the same company that supplies batteries for the latest Boeing 787 Dreamliner, all of which have been grounded since January after battery fires.

March Recall Roundup: GM, Ford and Subaru


The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released details on a new round of recalls issued by GM for the Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac SRX, Ford for its Focus, C-Max and Escape, as well as two older models, Subaru for the Legacy and Outback, which are actually the subject of two separate recalls. VW Recalling 384,000 Cars in China for Faulty DSG Transmissions, May Cost Over $600 Million


Volkswagen will recall 384,181 vehicles sold in China to fix a gearbox problem about which the automaker has taken some heat within the last 12 months. The recall was announced by China’s quality watchdog, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, with VW confirming it in an email statement. Read more »
